Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. I need a few minutes.
He thought he was alone and felt so lonely in the hospital til FM and Susan told us and they kept phone touch with him.
Oh God, I hope he didn't feel alone when he went.
I know he's painless and withthe angels now.
Bless you Dave.
Boy, talk about rocking my world. One minute busting chops, now balling my eyes out.
PieSusan's gonna be crushed.
Dee, thank you for giving us heads up.

Is there anyone here who can update us and give us some back story? I know some of those people over there, but only by their forum handles.

It was something I did not like doing but I knew many would want to know....
I just used his spices last night for dinner and thought of him. I don't think there will ever be a time of me using it where I won't be thinking of him now. I hope that doesn't sound odd....

PieSusan will find out I'm sure. But she's probably in the hospital with her mom and doesn't know yet.
I'm sure she many need alittle time before she'll want to share though.
I'm gonna hold hands with all til we find out more.
I asked FM over there to let me know about sending condolences.

Not weird at all. We all wish to make our mark in someway on other's lives. I'm sure that's why he did it.
He was quite lonely, and I'm sure he'd be pleased to know you're thinking of him, now, and whenever you use what he wanted you to share.

Thank you. No PM necessary now.
How sad, though I really didn't know him as well as others.

That doesn't sound odd at all, Dee.
I was just sitting here, trying to hold back the tears so I don't freak out the plumber who is finally unhooking our damaged vanity, and remembering how he would "pop" in with a PM every once in awhile and tell me he was keeping an eye on me and I better not be overdoing it with my leg. Now I feel I HAVE to get it better to keep my promise to him.
I have his address if anyone wants it. I plan to send a card for the family to it.
Thanks, Dee, for letting us know.

Thank you calico!
This all happened so quickly!
I know that Dave had a very tough time to look forward to. I'm glad that he had such wonderful friends from our cooking community to support him and warm his heart and soul for the last couple of weeks.
Rest in peace, Dave. We will miss you.

I will miss him greatly, he was a great guy! I once sent him horseradish from our garden, he was so excited to have some fresh.

How about posting the details when you get them. We read all the talk, and can surmise part of what happened. While we don't know Dave, hearing this much I would like to hear more. Hope you don't mind.

These are small bits of what happened.
Too all my DC friends I just about check out permintly Tues PM
I have not been feeling good for the last three weeks, If I stood up I got dizzy if I done any thing stress wise I could not get a deep breath so I went to the VA Tues afternoon and talked to my Nurse and she hauled me off to Emergency and the fight was on. My Bone Marrow has QUIT producing blood. after 3 blood tests I was told I had about 24-36 hours to live if I had not checked in to the hospital, they gave me TWO units of whole blood and a bunch of other IV drugs and put me to bed in isolation nobody could come into my room with out a gown and a mask.. I was released this afternoon with instructions to be back on Fri morning for more tests and be back Monday for a bone morrow biopsy. So I am taking it easy. Goning to watch the rose bowl parade and the games.
Happy new year to all
I just spoke with Dave and he asked me to post an update. His computer died yesterday and he won't be able to have anyone look at it until Monday at the earliest.
He got some of his results back from his bone marrow biopsy and it indicates he has a condition called MDS, which stands for myelodysplastic syndromes. He will have an appointment next week to get more information, but it doesn't look like a good result for our friend. I know he will post when he is able to get back online but in the meantime, let's keep Dave in out thoughts and prayers.
I just spoke to Dave and he was in very good spirits and feels a lot better. He thinks he wil be in the hospital at least until Tuesday. He doesn't know if he will wind up in rehab or if he will go home. His lungs and his voice is much improved. It is the pre-leukemia condition that he is most concerned with but I told him that he has a lot of prayers and that he had to do his part by staying positive and eating. He is weak, in part, because he hates the hospital food. So, I encouraged him to eat and finally, they gave him a couple decent meals. He is a delightful person and I am sorry that I cannot visit in person. He does have some cute nurses. He knows the DC community cares and it means a lot to him. He really has had a very varied and interesting life.
I just spoke to Dave, who has been in the hospital in Intensive Care since last Saturday. He got moved to a private room a couple of hours ago, but is in very serious shape. Apparently he developed pneumonia and that combined with the bone marrow disease made him very ill, indeed. He has had 6 units of blood so far and massive doses of antibiotics, but things are not responding well so far. He asked me to post this and says if you have a little extra time and can say a few prayers for him, he'd be very grateful. He says he can use all the help he can get right now.
Dave told me today that he is feeling better and better and believes it is all the love, support and prayers from here that is making a difference. He is a bit bored and watches tv, reads a bit and naps. I told him that I would call again tomorrow. Today we talked about wine and cuts of steak.
This post was just 3 days ago!!!
Thank you one and all for the prayers, good wishes. I am not out of the woods yet, by a long shot. They messed up my Bone Marrow test and had to go after the left side of my Pelvic. Which hurt so bad I screamed. As soon as my results came back they started on Cemo not much fun either.
Thanks TG.
