Probably a repeat of last night's performance, unless the couple brats I had left over don't make it past lunch....
I may need to put on my Ice Skates to get out of my place. The neighbors Pine tree is down in front of the property and we have a good 2" to 3" of ice covering the snow from last week. Dinner perhaps some Venetian Ice with vodka might be a good way to tonight.
I will get back to you later with my dinner plans as I just finished breakfast and haven't had my first full pot of coffee yet.

:ohmy::ohmy::ohmy::ohmy: Joe!!
We're having beef stroganoff that lilylove posted the other day. I made it last night for dinner tonight and it's delicious!! I'll probably make a salad to go with it.
Barb
I made a salad with ours last night also. I still haven't decide what we will have tonight but then I might just do some Mongolian Beef and fried rice. I haven't had an Asian meal in about a week now and having some with drawls. I still have enough Kim Chee in the refrigerator for my wife and I so we will probably finish that up too so I can make up another batch as it does keep for years.

Hey JoeC?
Isn't this the thread where I posted my lunch (which was going to be dinner), and we started talking brats?
I'm going to look elsewhere just to doublecheck.
My mother used to make the best fried chicken when chicken came from farm yards. It was all she could cook really the woman had trouble boiling water. At any rate she just fried it in lard which is still makes it taste best.

HA! Lilylove gets the DORK pin tomorrow. You can have the title the day after that.
Hell.. who would have known that there would be a line for the DORK pin??? :yum:
Lard is great for cooking but due to the food police it has fallen out of grace over the last 20 years. Cakes and Pies used to be better when I was a kid and they all used it in one form or other. Today most fried foods are done with oil with the correct fats. Oh well perhaps it will add a day or two to ones life but I doubt it.

:D
Looks GREAT, Jeeks!
That roasted squash caught my eye right away, and I don't even eat squash. Probably because I never had it roasted.
How about a quick recipe? What kind of squash and all that?

It's a butternut squash. Just cut it up with your knife into bite sized pieces. Coat with olive oil, salt & pepper and place on a baking sheet. Place in a 425 oven for 20-25 minutes (or until soft) and your done.

Thanks. I built that island myself from a useless cabinet. I saved the face of the cabinet and built the carcas, cutting board and top myself. The cutting board was rough sawn rock maple that I milled down to 1 3/4" strips. The top is 18x18" absolute black granite tile with a laminated oak edge.

Im impressed!!!! That VERY nice! Mind is I ask how much it cost?
High Cheese
01-28-2009, 08:24 PM
The tile was something like $125. The wood was $200 but I had some left over. Other than that it was oak plywood and some solid oak for the edge and trim. I'd say about $600-700 total.
You can find the butcher block top cheaper than what I paid. I never oil it and clean it with soapy water. The open pores allow any bacteria to die off.
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n248/Jeekinz/Pics009.jpg
I didn't realize that was a cutting board. I clean my cutting boards with a vinegar/water solution about 50/50. I also oil mine with a mix of food grade mineral oil and bee's wax.
High Cheese
01-28-2009, 08:43 PM
The idea is: if the board is new and you oil it, you need to keep on oiling it. If you don't oil it, you cannot oil it later or it will trap in any bacteria.
My brother has a Boos butcher block island that comes oiled, so he needs to oil that all the time, even when he cuts into the finish.
I would assume it is perhaps true Jeekinz. All of mine came with just mineral oil which will weep out in short order. Now having owned a couple of Boos I not sure I agree with everything they say in regards to them but I can't disprove it either.
Now in my case I wash them as I said previously which is a natural disinfectant as well as an odor killer. I do this after using it which is daily. I use the oil/wax on the cutting surface weekly and the whole board, bottom and sides also monthly. My first board which I made in Jr. High school and gave to my grandmother took a hurricane to destroy after about 45 years of use. It was treated the same as I do now.
