View Full Version : The Bachelor
My DW is addicted to "Reality TV," and The Bachelor is one of her shows. I listen in the background and can't believe a bunch of supposedly intelligent young women would put themselves into a competition for one guy, regardless of his wealth or good looks. What's wrong with our young women? Are they that hard up to find a good man? Are there that few good men left who are marketable? I fail to find the merit in this competition. If one of my daughters would enter that competition, I would be greatly disappointed in them. I would hope that they have a better self-esteem than to throw themselves at any man.
A Confused Father of Two Intelligent Daughters
Well as a father of 1 daughter and 7 grand daughters all but one are old enough to date and 2 are married your sights are too high I think. Their minds work different than ours but not much different. :dizzy:

I don't get the whole concept of reality TV and its popularity. Other than to say sitcoms started to suck so the networks had to come up with something. It definitely put them back in competition with cable/satellite for at least a couple slots.
If I had a kid they'd be watching reruns of Archie Bunker and MASH before I let them watch reality shows.
Your mileage may vary

Seems to me 15 min of fame has become REALLY important to people.
Not this people.
I never got the bachelor. You CANNOT tell me these people can't find ANYONE without being on a game show.
The only reality show I watch is Biggest Loser.... some of those people are incredible!!! I keep hoping they will inspire me to stop chit-chatting here and go work out, but wish in one hand, shit in the other, see what ya get first. :yuk:

Reality TV sucks. Shitcoms suck.
As a female, I can't answer you. Maybe they've been stroked all their lives to believe they're nothing without a man, or they're the be all to end all. Who knows.
Why do people go on talk shows and air their dirty laundry?
Fools!

Can you say "GOLD DIGGERS". Old term but seems to fit this class of woman.

I find myself disgusted by this show. Who wants to compete for someone's love and affection or is this just about 15 minutes of fame.

There are tons of incentives for these women to go on these shows, and more if they are the one chosen.
There is also a message hidden in there: Only the most successful and handsome men will get women fighting over them, and only the most beautiful and 'submissive' women will get a chance at them. IE beauty and looks are much more important that inteligence or personality. To me TV has become completely unrealistic in most ways, I mean come on when was the last time a plumber showed up at your house looking like fabio? Or the woman stranded in the desert came out three days later looking perfect still? Makes me miss MASH and The HoneyMooners a lot...
Also, they did a recent poll to find out who is more 'shallow', men or women. The verdict is neither and both. While men put beauty at the top followed by personality, women put money at the top followed by looks. That's not every man or woman just the majority of those polled.
Bottom line we need to teach our sons and daughters better... I have two daughters and I am teaching them to be independent not 'go for the gold'. I have one son and I am teaching him to go for compatibility, personality, strength, compassion etc first...
I hope I am successful....

With my daughter, I found they grow up in spite of us, not because of us. Her ways sure aren't my ways.
