I always liked this thread, so I'm gonna fire it up over here!

Last night I watched two rather strange movies...

Funny Games - that was a trippy movie.
Diary of the Dead - yet another odd movie that does not seem to be the run of the mill horro flicks.

I just saw that within the last few months, Trish. Good movie. Better than Crusoe, though I liked that, too. I like those stranded kind of movies. Lord of the Flies....

Tropic Thunder was a huge disappointment!!

I did like the ruins, pretty good movie.

Just finished Babel, I thought it was a well written movie, but kinda weird in places and slightly disjointed.

Next up is Hancock.

August Rush was fantastic! Loved it! The boy in it is going to be an awesome actor when he grows up.

We saw Dark Night tonight. I am not big on comic book type movies. It was good, and not to shame his name ... but I do not believe it was Oscar quality for Heath. He was much better in A Knight's Tale. I think they are doing him a disservice giving him an Oscar - seems more out of sympathy. And trust me ... I loved the guy!

Watched Mirrors the other day with Keifer Sutherland. Yet again, disappointed with a scary movie. I swear ... will I ever agian be spooked? Hubby tried watching it with me, that is a big surprise - but left after 20 minutes because it was too intense. He is my sissy man! LOL

Saw Tropic Thunder about a week ago. I have no comment on it ... I hate slap stick humor movies.

Didn't see this around anywhere, and I always like it. So let's get it going again.

Me first: Mr. Brooks. Way wicked film, not scary but just really cool and well directed I thought.

Kids watched Speed Racer ( yea OK I count myself as a big kid so I watched it to, well some of it), they loved it I didn't think much of it at all.

Who's next?

Watched Gran Torino last night - - a good Eastwood offering; the story line is interesting, there are several outstanding acting efforts.
The climax has an unexpected twist to it, but not disappointing at all.
The only thing I can actually find to criticize, it would be after the movie is over and the credits are running; Eastwood sings the movie theme song ..................what was he thinking ??

PeppA just told me she's off to the store to get some cheese (she likes that junky American cheese on her pulled pork sammies), and that she's going to get Madagascar II for the kids.

I really wish she'd develop a sense of patience when it comes to movies. We've got a used DVD place here, so if she could wait a few weeks, odds are, they'll have new releases at a discount.

I just got Showtime for 3 months free due to my anniversary with DirecTv. I caught a couple of movies I've been wanting to see over the last couple of days. One is the new James Bond flick that was pretty good and Sicko (documentary). I also caught the one with Jolin about the news guy that was decapitate right after 9/11. I haven't seen it yet have but have heard a bit about it. I don't think this is spin but more truthfully than many would really believe nor want to. The world is full of stupid people that are scary in their beliefs so it doesn't surprise me if it was 100% factual. I have actually meet people that have many of the same beliefs in my life, surprisingly more so of late.

This Review of "Right America" pretty much reflects my reaction to the film
(BTW- could we even be HAVING this exchange at our old home-site?)

I have to confess that I enjoyed the film on 2 levels. As a liberal, I laughed out loud through much of the movie. The evil partisan in me took dickish glee at the crying of McCain supporters. I then felt bad about it, and re-watched those sections. There are many genuinely funny moments in the piece. I almost spit my drink when the McCain campaign worker confides to the camera, in a stage whisper, that the house in her neighborhood with the new Obama sign has "two lesbians" living in it.

What the film really does well, though, is to humanize people who are often seen as caricatures. I especially liked the guy who shows up about 28 minutes in. He's disappointed that he can't fly the confederate flag anymore or go to "tittie bars." It would be easy to laugh at the guy, especially when he starts crying, but If you listen to him, he's not against the government helping people. He just doesn't think it will help him.

Then, there's the Mississippi man who matter-of-factly says that Obama is the "wrong color" to come to his state. Another man, a trucker, tells Pelosi he isn't going to vote for a "n****r." But then, a black Mississippi man chides Pelosi for showing that clip to "paint Mississippi bad," when there's racism in New York, in Los Angeles, all over.

I have another confession to make. I secretly was kind of on the side of the guy who attacked the dude with the "Emperor has no clothes" sign. Of course, I'm against violence, but I can understand the guy getting angry. That's the kind of self-satisfied, smug "cleverness" that makes me want to slap some liberals upside the head. Why humiliate McCain with a bad photoshop job, when you can just read his health care plan !

I also must further confess that, when a McCain supporter yelled at a protester to "Get a job!", I was reasonably certain that the person she was yelling at did not, in fact, have a job.

But since I don't like his politics, I do not buy into a lot of 'facts' presented in any of his films.

Does anyone use the website "Rotten Tomatoes" when deciding what movies to rent?

I do. Or did. I think I'm going to give up on it.

Today, we watched "Hancock" with Will Smith, Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron, which was panned by critics but we found surprisingly funny and entertaining. My brother picked that one from a Blockbuster list.

And then we watched "Adaptation" (Nicolas Cage and Meryl Streep) which was highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes. That was a big "what the ......?"

Maybe I'll just use this thread for recommendations from now on.

Mirrors can be verrrrrrrrrrrrrry scary.

Maybe I'll just use this thread for recommendations from now on.

i couldn't sleep last night, so i stayed up and watched "death on a factory farm".

another leftist slanted documentary. this time i have to agree with the conservative right. and i love pork. :thumb:

i've personally assisted with bludgeoning a pig to death (something i'll never forget), so hanging doesn't seem that much worse. yeah, i understand that it takes a long time, but these animals are there to be slaughtered. is 4 or 5 minutes too long when you are putting a downed animal to death? it seemed humane in a way.

a bullet would be better, of course, but the farmer might get it as well. lethal injection is economically impractical, not to mention that it would require more time for the beast to suffer being alive until a vet could perfom the task.

i thought the prosecution should have concentrated on describing the amount of time electrocution or a captive bolt takes. that would have served their case that hanging is cruel because of how long it takes a pig to asphyxiate.

the whole thing is an ugly business, so i don't blame the farmer. i wouldn't want to do it.

although i'd consider hanging or bludgeoning a few lawyers...

A story about 4 urban bikers that decide to travel cross country on motorcycles to add some spice to their rather mundane lives. It stars Tim Allen, John Trovalta, Martin Lawarence and William H. For the rest of the week I have a few more to watch. House Bunny, 21, Death Race, National Treasure 2, and Zohan.

What a wonderfully fun movie that was. It’s a Vampire flick, but with a twist. It’s also a “teenie” movie as the main characters are teens, but it is done very well…..and face it, we’re all young at heart.

I love the twist on the Vampire story, and it is a love story of sorts. Very fun, a bit of action, some suspense, nice character build up, and some good suspense building as well. The “kitchen” scene is to die for and all NCTers should at least see that part!!!

Over all, 4.5 out of 5 stars.

You think Twilight was a chick flick? Well, it was a love story more than a vamp movie. Very little blood (maybe a whole 2 cups through the whole movie), gore, or killing.....not even much show of teeth. But I don’t know that I’d say it was a full blown chick flick.

Sure I would consider it a teen chick flick really. Now True Blood on HBO is more and Adult men's version of vampires. Oh and the baseball game was a great scene also though I found the one with him showing off in the woods for her perhaps a bit better. Now I enjoyed all 3 of the ones I listed with August Rush moving into my top 10 list but still I consider them chick flicks more than a "man's" movie but then I rate Steel Magnolias in my top 10 all time list also.

I've also seen a few others lately that I enjoyed such as No Reservations among others.

I can see that. It was a fun movie, but a bit soft to be a "Man's" movie. No Vin Diesel, no Chuck Norris..........there was that one seen with some bone breaking though!

I don't consider movies like the Punisher, a Chuck Norris, etc as men's movies either more a teen boy movie. Now I've seen Vin Diesel in both teen boy movies, chic flicks as well as men's movies so he pretty well has covered all the groups. I actually consider a man's movie more of something along the lines of The Godfather, A Few Good Men, The Devinci Code, historical pieces, good science fiction or even fantasy like Lord of the Rings. However those thing can also cross gender lines as well much like and August Rush or a Steel Magnolias.

Now with that said there are times I don't want to think, be concerned with social issues so I like all movies if I catch them in the right mood can be fun or entertaining.

I like Patricia Cornwell. I have only read Portrait of a killer. I need to read more of her stuff. Twilight is my first books in about 5 years.

What was good about it is I got the series complete to the date and each book built on the previous one. Isabella (the retired nun) actually gave me a list of what order to read them in. It fascinated me that a nun would read this series until I got to know her better. She was a really interesting woman.

Cornwell also did the definitive book on Jack the Ripper, which some historian's beleive she actaully solved the case of who it was. I know she is a family friend of Billy Graham and his wife and wrote a book about them also. She is an excellent writter.

Another of my favorite books was one called Audrey Rose but can't remember the author's name.

Hubby left for FL today so I watched some movies.

Fred Claus - actually pretty good considering I do not like Vince Vauhn

The Day The Earth Stood Still - also pretty good, but I think it could have been better.

Friday night I will be watching Dorothy Mills.

Did you ever see the orginal of the Day the Earth Stood Still? If so this one was a poor knockoff with better special effects. I'm sure you are a little young to remember it though I saw it in the theather when in came out. You might have caught it on TV now.

Yes he is also has a deal to do a movie of the latest book by Dan Brown which hasn't been released yet but the same main character even the with Tom Hanks still playing the guy.

And I also saw "Pineapple express". Again relating to a lot of the.....aw who's kidding who-I just like stoner movies-LMAO!!

And of course, we both told everybody how they just had to see it because it was soooo funny. DW went to a Red Box tonight with a Free Promo Code and got a DVD for free.

We watched: Farm House

I’ve got to say, I’m incredibly impressed with this movie. It’s got some serious twists, so to get the full brunt of the movie, don’t look, read, or listen to anything about it. Just watch it!

The execution in this movie is nearly flawless, and really carries you through the emotional roller-coaster as the characters develop.

And, since we’re all foodies…..there is a scene in the kitchen involving a grater that I may never get over. It’s probably one of the most horrific scenes I’ve seen to date. OMG!

If you get a chance, pick this DVD up and watch it blind. Don’t read about it, don’t investigate it, just watch it and let it unfold without knowing a thing about it. AWESOME!

Odd thing is, you get even more out of the movie the second time you watch it. It’s really good.

Those movies aren't anything like No Country for Old Men. I don't follow you... but for the record, Pretty Woman, no, once was enough, Dirty Dancing, yes. I've seen that a few times all the way through.
