This is a recipe I used to make with my grandmother. We usually doubled this.

3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
6 egg yolks, slightly beaten
3 T. whiskey or rum
1/2 pint sour cream

Sift together flour, sugar and salt. Stir in beaten egg yolks and whiskey or rum. Add sour cream. Mix and knead throughly until dough is smooth and elastic, 15-20 minutes. Cover with a cloth and let stand 20-25 minutes. Roll out thin as noodle dough and cut with pastry wheel into diamond shape. Cut a 1/2" slit in each diagonally. Pull one corner through slit so it sort of looks like a bow tie. Deep fry until just slightly browned. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with confectioners sugar.

Do you recommend one type of frying oil over another for this? I've never fried anything sweet before, lol

I've just used vegetable oil or canola oil.

It's not a really sweet dough............until it's fried and you put the confectioner's sugar on it. LOL

What a great idea, RM! Mexicans do something similar here at Christmas by frying flour tortilla wedges and then sprinkling them with cinnamon sugar.
