I bought suede baking mitts recently to assist me with getting my new cloche out of the oven but they are so big and bulky. I do love them though. I bought these:

Anyone have the kevlar gloves?

I am considering buying them as well.
Between the two which do you prefer?
The idea is not to burn the heck out of myself.
Thanks, Pie Susan

As there are newbies who might have an answer for me, I am bumping up my question. Thanks, Susan

I may be wrong, but I don't think Kevlar protects again heat. Kevlar gloves are worn in the meatpacking industry to protect against cuts, often with chain mail gloves.
I have some silicone gloves that work quite well. They seem bulky but they're so flexible that I can easily pick up anything in the oven. Got them from QVC.

I also wish my face wouldn't get hit with the heat blast and glasses fog up when I open the door. I don't really feel the need so much for my hands, as I do for my face.

Kevlar is mixed with Nomex for protection from heat in military flight suits.

Yes, same in fire fighters' call-out suits. But it's the Nomex that provides the flame resistance; the Kevlar provides the tear and puncture resistance but does nothing beyond that to protect against heat and would be unless in that regard without the Nomex, AFAIK. In any case, to my knowledge Kevlar gloves aren't meant for use as oven mitts.

Yup. And Kevlar is used as thread to hold it all together.

Did you see the kevlar glove that breadtopia is selling to be used as an oven mitt? It is the second link I posted. I purchased the suede baking mitts but they are bulky.

Yeah, and here is what it says:
Made with Kevlar and Nomex, this oven glove withstands extreme heat up to 540 degrees Fahrenheit. Enough protection to safely handle the high temperatures called for in the no knead bread recipes or home pizza making. Now it’s easy to lift that piping hot loaf from its baking dish or baking stone. They’re also ideal for use with outdoor grilling and handling the many barbecuing tools.
Nomex is the heat/flame retardant.

I understand that, I just wanted to know if anyone had experience using them and what they thought, Buzz. I have had neither and am trying to learn.

Those gloves are nice! I've seen them, they are lightweight gloves. I've not used them but have a friend who has a pair and said they are wonderful.

I haven't used Kevlar/Nomex gloves. The "highest tech" gloves I've used are a brand called "Orca". They're some kind of heat-resistant material. You can literally reach into a pot of boiling water and pull something out (handy to have when you're cooking 150 lbs of shrimp). You can also reach into an oven and pull out a hot pan with those gloves.
